Dear Doreen Virtue

My response to Doreen Virtue's recent ad that graced my feed.

I was going to post this as a comment, but she so nicely shut those off.

To believe the claim that “Reiki is a demonic counterfeit” is to reveal a fundamental misunderstanding of what Reiki truly is at its essence. Yes, it is unfortunately true that many self-proclaimed “Reiki practitioners” in today’s world practice in ways that distort, dilute, or even misrepresent the system sometimes unknowingly, sometimes for personal gain. This misuse can make Reiki appear to be something it is not. But at its core, Reiki is not about channeling some mysterious, external, and manipulative power. It is the practice of returning to our true nature of letting go, releasing attachments, and stepping out of duality into non-duality. Reiki, in its traditional Japanese form, is deeply rooted in simplicity, humility, and the quiet recognition that healing is not something we do to someone it is something that naturally arises when we rest in harmony with the Source of life itself. In that sense, Reiki is not in conflict with Christ’s teachings; rather, it aligns with the heart of them. Jesus himself practiced the laying on of hands. Scripture tells us he healed the sick, restored sight to the blind, and even raised the dead not by force or manipulation, but by aligning perfectly with the will of God and allowing divine love to flow without obstruction. He taught forgiveness, the release of fear, the power of faith, and the unshakable truth that the Kingdom of God is within. These are not ideas foreign to Reiki; they are its heartbeat. The precepts at the foundation of traditional Reiki living without anger, without worry, with gratitude, integrity, and compassion are not “New Age” inventions. They are timeless spiritual principles found in nearly every sacred tradition, including Christianity. They guide the practitioner to release the ego, to surrender personal will, and to live in a state of love and service. When practiced in purity, Reiki is not about drawing from random “energies of the universe” without discernment. It is about returning to that One Light what Christians would call God that animates and sustains all life. In fact, the Japanese word “Reiki” can be understood as “sacred life energy” or “the wisdom and love of the Source flowing through creation.” It is not separate from God. It is of God. Unfortunately, just as there are false teachers and corrupt leaders in any religion including Christianity there are those who distort Reiki, blend it with unrelated “New Age” elements, or practice without spiritual grounding. These individuals can give the impression that Reiki is something dark or deceptive. But this is a misunderstanding of the essence of the practice, not proof of its nature. Condemning Reiki without understanding it is much like condemning prayer because some misuse it or rejecting the laying on of hands because counterfeit healers exist. The abuse of a thing does not define its truth. To truly know Reiki, one must experience it with an open heart, free from superstition and fear, and with discernment rooted in love. The same love Christ taught. The same love that “casts out fear” (1 John 4:18). The same love that heals. Reiki is not here to replace Christ, it is a way of living, healing, and being that reflects the very nature of Christ’s message: love without condition, peace without fear, and union without separation. Doreen I truly hope you find peace in the battles you face.

"Why Reiki is a Demonic Counterfeit by a former Reiki Master saved by God’s grace and mercyMany women unknowingly enter the new age in their quest for healing, when a friend recommends a healer she describes as someone gentle, intuitive, and “spiritually gifted.” And she may not have any idea what’s behind Reiki. So she goes to the Reiki master and is told to lie down, relax, and receive healing energy from the universe. She may feel warmth, tingling, or a sense of calm. It feels peaceful, so she assumes it must be good. But she’s been lied to.Reiki doesn’t come from God.It’s not biblical healing. It’s not “natural” energy. It’s a New Age counterfeit that draws its power from demonic spirits pretending to be light. I should know: I was a Reiki master, who gave and received Reiki energy before I was saved. As a Christian, I’m sounding the alarm that Reiki isn’t something that we should be involved in at all.True healing comes only from the Lord, not from channeling “life force” or manipulating energy fields. Reiki masters use symbols that the spiritualist Mikao Usui channeled from demons. One of his students tried to argue that Usui was a Christian seminary professor, yet she later admitted she lied to try to make Reiki more palatable to westerners. The devil is the father of lies. Reiki practitioners often call themselves lightworkers, yet remember:“Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14)And just like mediums and psychics, Reiki practitioners are being used by the enemy (often unknowingly) to point people away from Jesus. Because going to an energy healer is not only about receiving false light. Most healers will also recommend new age books, and seminars during the session.Energy healing may feel peaceful, and may seem helpful, but Satan often starts with relief so you’ll keep following him instead of turning to Jesus. Be very careful, because some massage therapists and chiropractors incorporate Reiki into their practices. If you go to bodywork appointments, be sure to say ahead of time that you don’t want any Reiki. They may argue with you that Reiki is fine, or even say that it’s Christian. Some people even blasphemously say that Jesus did Reiki during his miraculous healings. But stand firm against the schemes of the devil.Don’t be deceived. You don’t need “energy work.”You need the cross. Repent and believe in the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. "
