Yes -Reiki means “universal life force energy.”
Yes - that energy is available to all.
Yes - many healing practices work with it in their own way.
But
Reiki, the spiritual practice, is not just “working with energy.”
Reiki is a system. A discipline. A lineage.
It has form, structure, and depth.
It includes meditations, precepts, symbols, and initiations passed down from teacher to student.
When people say, “I do Reiki my own way,” what they’re often doing is channeling energy and that’s beautiful.
But that doesn’t make it Reiki.
Reiki the energy is everywhere.
Reiki the practice is something you commit to.
When we blur those lines, when we call every intuitive healing session or energy blend “Reiki” we lose something sacred.
This isn’t gatekeeping.
It’s guardianship.
It’s about honoring what’s been handed down with care.
It’s about clarity.
It’s about truth in naming.
If you're working with energy, amazing.
If you've created your own way, Name it. Stand by it. Own it fully.
But don’t call it Reiki unless it truly is. That’s what integrity looks like, integrity toward the system, and integrity toward yourself. You deserve that respect, and so does the practice of Reiki.
